Bruno [*1996, he/him] studied scenic arts in Hildesheim from 2017 to 2021 and then went on to complete a master's degree in theater directing at the Zurich University of the Arts until 2025, including a semester of stage design and lighting at ENSATT in Lyon. He writes texts and develops them further with actors and team. The plays are part of an ongoing work in a continuous questioning of the present that surrounds us, which is interwoven with the processes as an exchange and is opened up to the audience in the performances. This is not about creating finished, static plays, but about evenings whose processes are inscribed and visible in them, about a practice that we believe in for theater as a viable and livable form.
The play “Manchmal seufze ich und denke: Ich bin ein einsamer Stern” won the audience award of the Writers Studio at Schauspiel Hannover in January 2019. In spring 2020, he was a finalist at the Days of Young Drama at Theater Magdeburg and Staatstheater Braunschweig, interned with René Pollesch, and made the film “Mein letzter Vampirfilm im Kapitalismus” The theater text “Futura Free” was nominated for the Retzhofer Drama Prize in 2021. In October 2021, he was invited to the Monologfestival at TD Berlin, since then he has had an artistic friendship with the theater. His plays have been shown in workshop productions at Schauspiel Hannover, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Theater Magdeburg, and Schauspiel Graz. He directs in the independent scene at theaters in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Zurich, and Hildesheim. Grateful recipient of scholarships from the German Literature Fund and the Performing Arts Fund. Recordings of virtual spaces that search for breaks in the narratives of intact worlds were shown in exhibitions in November 2022 in New York (Ideal Glass Studios) and in June 2023 in Los Angeles (Ubisoft Forward).
In spring 2024, the play “The Ways That I Learned Led Into Ruins” premiered in the tropical greenhouses of the new botanical garden in Zurich. In summer 2025, the work “Acting Crisis” followed, based on text from the previous year, which moves along increasingly dark times, attempting, contrary to a passive experience of destruction, not to get stuck in loneliness and silence, but to keep moving together.
Parallel to the artistic work, he studies biodiversity with a focus on accompanying climate transformation processes in ecologically sensitive areas, collecting and translating local and indigenous knowledge for the collective transition to a livable, regenerative present. The focus is on developing formats that make knowledge accessible beyond academic and scientific institutions. This work is currently taking place as part of the Creative Climate Changemaker Program and is funded by Pro Helvetia.
